Earlier this year, a facial plastic surgeon out of California released findings from a study indicating that a cosmetic nose surgery could make you look younger. With our desire to maintain a youthful appearance should you be considering a rhinoplasty to look younger?
Rhinoplasty (or “Nose job”) surgery is one of the most popular surgeries at our Denver based plastic surgery facility. Over the years we’ve heard numerous reasons for considering a nose surgery, but to look younger definitely isn’t one of them. But could, or should, it be? Not really.
According to the study 53 patient’s before and after photos (mostly women) were shown to 50 participants who guessed the age of the patients in their before and after photos. The findings? On average patients looked a year and a half younger. Sure a year and a half can be significant (if you’re 5 and 1/2), but for the average adult it isn’t providing a significant enough rejuvenation to warrant nose surgery.
This is why we consider rhinoplasty to be a facial reshaping, not a facial rejuvenating procedure. If you are considering a rhinoplasty to refine the shape of your nose, then you are considering the procedure for the correct reasons.
