Breast Lift and Scarring

If you are interested in a breast lift you probably have questions about the scarring involved. Dr. Slenkovich works hard to prevent visible scarring in areas that you will have a hard time covering, and can offer recommendations on helping your surgery incisions heal with minimal scarring.

The incisions necessary for a breast lift are virtually identical to those for a breast reduction, so both procedures will produce similar scars. These scars usually consist of a circular shape around the areola, which is virtually invisible against the change of flesh tone between the areola and surrounding breast skin, and a vertical line from the bottom of the areola to the crease of the breast.

Your breast lift scarring will be more visible immediately after the procedure and will fade over a period of about a year. The scars are easily covered by lingerie or a bikini, and our patients generally feel that the benefits of having a better breast shape outweigh any scarring. Many women notice very little visible scarring a year after their breast lift procedure, and protect themselves from scarring by:

  • Not smoking
  • Avoiding strenuous activities after the surgery
  • Avoiding direct sunlight on the scar until it is completely healed
  • Following Dr. Slenkovich’s scar care instructions
